Marion Webb-DeSisto Sep 26, 2009

American Corporal Sharon Cates is drawn to serve in the Army, expecting a great adventure. Stuck in a routine job in cold war Germany, guarding nuclear weapons, Sharon's great adventure is never bound to happen; until now when she receives a trip to go to Berlin to attend the Orientation Tour. Unknown to her, she carries top secret information that the Stasi and KGB are willing to kill her for.

Russian Dimitri Nagory is conscripted to serve in the Soviet military. As an assistant to a high ranking Soviet officer in his country's embassy in England, Dimitri's experienced the Western way of life. But it's a tease to him, his real life dull and routine. Dimitri isn't expecting a great adventure as he boards the duty train to Berlin and he isn't expecting to meet any Americans.

On the duty train to Berlin, Sharon and Dimitri's worlds collide. The Stasi derails the train in the middle of East Germany, expecting to take the information off of Sharon's dead body. However, Sharon and Dimitri are thrown from the train and Dimitri goes against everything he's ever been taught to ensure Sharon's safety back to the West.

Average Customer Review: 4½ Stars

"Ms. Cardin’s "Destination: Berlin" takes the reader back to 1988, when Germany was still a divided country and Berlin Wall still stood strong. In the days of the Cold War espionage was a well and alive, and numerous people engaged in it – some willingly and some much less so.

It is clear that Ms. Cardin’s personal military background enabled her to write a book from the uniquely personal perspective of a female in the U.S. Army. Her knowledge of the day-to-day operations and army procedures adds an interesting layer to the story, as do the very directly expressed views on the role of women in the military as well as some quite frank opinions of the past political situations. I enjoyed those parts greatly." - Olivera Baumgartner-Jackson for Reader Views.
